Tour the country's capital to view the monuments to past presidents, intriguing museums, live professional sports, and the making of contemporary history.

District of Columbia is a key location to visit for learning about the United States, its interesting past, and exciting present. Discover the city's nonpolitical features by visiting monuments and museums.

With its 2-mile (3-kilometer) expanse of attractions, the National Mall and Memorial Parks are a fantastic location to start. Recall Lincoln's actions in releasing slaves and paving the way for racial equality in the United States while standing on the steps of the Lincoln Monument. View the tall Washington Monument honoring the country's first president at the heart of the mall and the American flag's dome while looking across the reflecting pool.

View somber monuments honoring American service members from the Korean War, World War II, and the Vietnam War close to the reflecting pool. Just south of the mall, the Tidal Pool is surrounded by monuments to Thomas Jefferson, Martin Luther King Jr., and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Take a paddleboat across the water to see the monuments from various angles. Just to the east lies the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

There are 13 Smithsonian locations on or close to the National Mall. Whatever your interests, make a stop at the Smithsonian Castle visitor center to organize your days of exploring. The African Art Museum, the American History Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Air & Space Museum, the American Indian Museum, and the Museum of African American History and Culture are a few of the alternatives.

The White House, the presidential house, is located to the north of the National Mall. Get in touch with your country's ambassador or member of congress well in advance of your travel to Washington, D.C., to arrange tours of the White House or attendance in U.S. Capitol sessions.

The National Gallery of Art, the Newseum, which features interactive exhibits about democracy and free expression, and the Library of Congress, known as the greatest library in the world, are just a few of the other attractions in Washington, D.C. Lincoln was killed in Ford's Theatre, which is still a functioning theater today. At the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, take in fantastic performances. Visit local venues to see professional basketball, baseball, hockey, and football.
